For more than forty years, REIFENHÄUSER has been developing, planning and manufacturing lines and equipment for the production of monofilaments and strapping tapes in Germany. Specifically for this group of products, in 2001 the REIMOTEC subsidiary was founded which is located in Ober-Abtsteinach near Heidelberg, Germany. REIMOTEC continues REIFENHÄUSER's success story.
REIMOTEC is a system supplier of monofilament and strapping tape production equipment. This means that REIMOTEC does not only supply the equipment but the entire engineering and extensive know-how in process technology. This complete package is one of the reasons why REIMOTEC has become the market leader in the monofilament and strapping tape areas.

New developments in the market of monofilaments
The worldwide market for monofilaments is currently about 100 000 tons per year whereby the standard products will be removed more and more to the Far East.
As a result, European and North American manufacturers of monofilaments are facing cost pressure from the Far East. The challenge to survive can only be met by developing new innovative products.
REIMOTEC as the world's leading manufacturer of monofilament lines has set itself the target to give the monofilament market new impetus through new developments.
Monofilaments for artificial grass
The development of high-performance equipment for the manufacturing of monofilaments for artificial grass has contributed to allow the substitution of tapes by monofilaments.
The market share of monofilaments in the artificial turf market in 2003 was only about 10 000 tons, another 50 000 tons were produced from tapes.
The market for artificial turf for sports applications and the gardening and landscaping has continually grown to more than 100 000 tons in 2009, the market share of monofilaments is approx. 60%.
High-performance monofilament lines of REIMOTEC with an output of up to 300 kg / h have significantly contributed to replace tapes more and more by monofilaments.
High-speed monofilament lines
In the field of technical fabrics, e.g. for the filter technology, the trend is towards ever finer deniers. Monofilaments from PET or PA with a filament diameter of 50 - 100 microns have already been available but their production is very expensive due to the low output rates of existing lines (about 1-3 kg/h).
Also here REIMOTEC sets new standards. The development of a novel fully automatic winder concept allows reliable production of finest deniers at a speed of up to 900 m/min on REIMOTEC lines which means a multiplication of output capacities hitherto achieved and a reduction of production costs.
BiCo- and TriCo-technology
In the field of multifilaments the use of BiCo-technology is almost standard. This technology has not been enforced in the field of monofilaments yet.
The mechanical demands of monofilaments used for technical fabrics are much higher than for multifilaments, so there are only a few BiCo-monofilament applications in this field.
For the manufacturing of technical monofilaments, the combination of materials which are not compatible is of particular interest.
However, these composites delaminate after stretching. REIMOTEC has available a patented TriCo-technology in which a third layer is used as adhesive layer and thus materials which are not compatible can be processed.
Inline-quality assurance
The production of high-quality monofilaments not only requires high- quality equipment, engineering and process know-how but also a safe in- line quality control.
REIMOTEC offers a slub control system especially for monofilament lines. With this system up to 200 filaments with more than 10,000 measurements per filament can be scanned and slubs detected.
The diameter in-line recording of monofilaments is difficult due to a slight vibration of the filaments during production. This leads to measurement errors when using conventional measurement equipment. REIMOTEC has developed a high-quality equipment to record the filament diameter. The system is based on the latest CCD technology. This system has a resolution of 0.1 microns and attaches with a repeatability accuracy of 0.5 microns. With an extremely short exposure time in microseconds the influence of filament vibration is minimized.
PET strapping tape replaces steel hoops
Up to now, steel hoops, due to their stability, have been considered the only reliable material for transport packaging and tightening strap for heavy goods.
REIMOTEC has developed and patented a technology which allows the manufacture of a high-quality strapping tape made of 100% recycled bottle flakes.
Innovative twin-screw technology
The heart of these extrusion lines is the co-rotating twin-screw extruder "Reitruder". Through the application of this innovative twin-screw technology and future-oriented equipment and operating concept, REIMOTEC stands out in the manufacture of PET strapping tape equipment. With this development REIMOTEC has set new standards in the strapping tape industry and has given new impetus to the market.
By mid 2010, the 23rd strapping tape line with twin-screw extruder will be installed. With an installed capacity of about 70,000 tons per year, about 25% of the total annual PET strapping tape production capacity of 300,000 tons will be successfully produced using this technology. This clearly shows that the investment in innovative and modern technology ensures sustainable economic success.
